On December 11th, Baron Mauer opens preorders for its inaugural model, the Calaway Ref. 2659. Through the drafting of clean and angular lines, the profile of the watch first took shape. From original sketches to rapid-prototyping, the Calaway has gone through iteration after iteration to distill the design into its purest form. The result? An extremely sharp and focused wear.
The 316 low-carbon steel case shows dramatic movement with sweeping contours and contrasting edges. The lug chamfers, the Calaway's most striking feature, bring a crispness and clarity to the watch, commanding a strong wrist presence in any environment. Reminiscent of military watches from the past, with a flat brushed bezel and steep beveled edges, the Calaway fuses classic elements with a more shaped and refined modern aesthetic. A pair of brushed angled platforms reduces the standard gap between the strap and watch case, unifying the watch with a near-seamless transition. The case has a 39mm diameter, 10mm thickness (excluding the subtly-domed sapphire glass), and is 49mm lug-to-lug.
Advertising MessageThe dial, unlike more typical flat dials, has a curved outer edge, creating a pan-pie aesthetic with a smoother sloped transition towards the minute markers. In ambient light, the raised angular indices and matching dauphine hands take up a fluttering, specular behavior, contrasting the dial's micro-sandblasted finish. To ensure a high-definition and distortion-free viewing experience, the sapphire glass is double-domed and treated with an anti-reflective coating.
The Calaway houses one of the most reliable 2-handed shock-proof mechanical movements on the market: the SW210-1. This Swiss Made Sellita Caliber is a hand-wound 11.5 ligne movement, featuring an Incabloc shock system, 42-hour power reserve and 19 jewels at 28,800 vph. A push/pull crown configuration was specifically selected for ease of use when manually winding the watch.
The Calaway Ref. 2659 is available in stainless steel or Yellow Gold PVD with two dial configurations (Carbon Black, White Sand), and four strap options.
